Joint UK Government and Private Sector Aerospace Project
The Quest:
This aerospace business were mid-point through a multi million pound joint government and private organisational change programme. They wanted their upcoming annual conference to be the platform for “raising their game” for the next phase for their 180 project team leaders. The theme of “winning teams – staying connected” would move the conference focus toward project execution and delivery becoming 30% quicker. The 14 senior project team leaders needed to be highly skilled facilitators for the conference to be a success and the deliverables to be met.
The Route:
A 2 day leadership event to enable the project team leaders to engage as effective facilitators at their annual conference. Additionally a series of activities were designed that would create a roadmap for participants over their two-day conference. Based on the innovative “Appreciative Inquiry” approach as described in the following steps:
In addition to the above a “Coach Journey Interview Guide” was designed for use at the conference together with a full programme of activities and “activity zones” planner.
The Outcomes:
Participants learned a number of approaches to gain team agreement and commitment. They took the opportunity to practice using proven successful facilitation tools and techniques – and also experienced the above being role-modeled by myself throughout the two days as the facilitator. Their subsequent preparation for the conference took on a whole new perspective to the extent that future conferences will include similar approaches in terms of planning and involvement.
Moreover, the conference went on to become their most successful event to date. The team leaders have enjoyed recognition for their project deliverables and all reported significant increased engagement and cross pollination of projects.
