Leader As Coach
Why are coaching skills important right now?
The pandemic has impacted every business around the globe. The value of having employees who are willing to adapt, learn, collaborate and contribute has never been so critical so to their health and wellbeing. Identifying what style of leadership is needed to enable this to happen is also critical and the topic of coaching is high on most organisations’ leadership and management agenda.
Much research has been carried during and after the pandemic that evidences how the role of a leader/manager as a coach improves relationships, identifies true causes of behaviour (good and bad), enables development and engagement at every level of personnel and has significant health and wellbeing benefits.
Our friends at Gallup agree and tell us that only 21% of employees say that their performance is managed in a way that motivates them. Only 30% are involved in goal setting but those same 30% are 4 times more likely to be engaged. Gallup also tells us that managers in todays climate need to be more of a coach than an authoritative boss.
